At Bonne Femme - we pride ourselves on the provenance of our fine ingredients which are sourced locally and are as near as dammit organic.  The highest in animal welfare standards is my top priority when choosing our meat and dairy produce.  Our Red Poll beef is that of the Alde Estuary salt marsh grazed cattle of the Red Cow Company, beautifully bred and reared by Edward and Sally – keepers of The Sea Hawk Herd of Red Poll cattle –  I  graze a few of these girls with their calves at foot on the water meadows here at Kettleburgh.   All beef is hung on the bone (dry aged) for a minimum of 21 days to mature.  The chicken is the amazing Sutton Hoo’s free range or organic bird - the quality in eating speaks for itself. Organic bacon and sausages are out of Muck and Magic’s Tamworth pigs, who also farm, cut and sell their own Norfolk Horn Lamb and Red Poll beef, from the organic Farm shop on their lovely farm at Wenhaston.  Jason and Katherine of Suffolk Farmhouse cheese produce a good blue alongside the other cracking cheeses out of their gorgeous herd of pedigree Guernsey milkers.  Yummy Coddenham creamy Jersey milk or milk from Suffolks only milking herd of Red Poll cows for my milkshakes from Best Farm Foods. Yoghurts by Farmhouse Fare of Friston.  I have friends and local growers, playing in their polytunnels to find the best seed type for different varieties of chillies, fresh coriander, salsa and salad ingredients for our wraps.  The beans, well I think the best for our vegetarian wrap is the organic black turtle bean, as yet we haven’t found a black bean grower in the country let alone Suffolk but we’re working on it.  Drinks can be served on board, again using local producers such as Aspall apple juice and James White organic juices.  Our packaging needs working on, however, I have managed to locate cups and plates made from renewable plant materials which are fully compostable and biodegradable.  We carry the information about our farmers/suppliers and how to source their produce on board ‘the van’, please do enquire.  The feast is freshly cooked and served by Fifi the Cordon Bleu chef from the little van.

The ‘van’ – is a wonderful vintage French citroёn H Van – funky but smart.

The seasons – Our aim is to work with the seasons as far as possible. For example, at certain times of the year we will put on seasonal specialities such as moules mariniers and warming soups for the winter months. We will also be selling Asparagus with homemade hollandaise sauce in May and Samphire with hollandaise in mid-summer. Not everything has to be wrapped.  Any special requests?

For the kids – on board the van we can carry Organic Tamworth sausages (piggy in a blanket) and 100% Red Poll beef burgers

Wrap yourself – if you don’t feel hungry but would like something to take home for later, ready to wrap packs are available for farmers markets, easy to pop into the microwave.

The prices – For example prices start at £2.50 for a sausage wrap, £4.00 for the vegetarian black bean, £4.50  for the spicy minced beef and £6.00 for the sizzling steak or chicken breast.

Fuel consumption – I don’t want to talk about it! (Nobody’s perfect)

To hire - the van with or without its catering equipment, generator and gas etc, is available to hire for other uses such as photo/film shoots, marketing, sales promotions, etc.

Dishes are chosen and put together according to local ethically produced ingredients available.
